A legacy of teamwork and professionalism since 1980
Chief Executive Officer
After successfully completing a Structural Engineering Technology diploma from SAIT in 1971 and earning his stripes as an Estimator and Project Manager, Larry co-founded Barjac Construction Management with George Barnes in 1980. Barnes and Jacobson (Barjac) started with a focus on infrastructure projects for the first 15 years of operation, until 1996 when they were commissioned to build Varsity Chrysler in Calgary. The build was a success and Barjac quickly became the automotive builder of choice in Calgary, constructing over 70 of Calgary’s most iconic dealerships.
In 2000, George Barnes retired from Barjac and Larry continued to grow the business into one of Calgary’s most recognizable construction companies. In 2008, he sold the company to current owners Greg Jacobson and Michael Ruttan, to spend more time with his family and pursue his passions for boating and fishing. Larry remains an integral part of the business, acting as CEO and mentor to the current ownership group.Email Larry
Greg has been in the construction industry since he was able to walk, accompanying his father, Larry, to job sites and working over the summer holidays. He has held a number of positions within the company including Labourer, Lead Hand, Equipment Operator, Superintendent, Safety Supervisor, and Project Manager.
Greg entered Calgary’s booming energy industry in 1995, working with ITT Industries until 2003. In 2005, he and Mike Ruttan opened a small renovation and tenant improvement company called Headway Construction, then purchasing Barjac from Larry Jacobson where he now acts as President and General Manager.Email Greg
Senior Project Manager
Mike comes from a long line of contractors and trades, and from a young age learned about the building and construction industries. Instead of moving directly into a career in the industry, he achieved a Chemical Engineering Degree from SAIT, where he met Greg Jacobson.
In 2005, he co-founded Headway Construction with Greg Jacobson and the two focused the company renovation and tenant improvement services for residential and commercial customers, including Barjac. Driven to ensure that each project is done to the highest possible standard, Mike is known for his ingenuity and meticulous attention to detail.Email Mike
Designer Team Lead and Project Manager
Enzo’s passion for design began in high school where he was first exposed to the genius of AutoCAD. Like a duck to water, he was set on a career as a Draftsman and pursued a diploma from SAIT in Engineering Design and Drafting Technologies.
In April 2008, he accepted a role with Barjac as Draftsman/Coordinator where he was exposed to all facets of the design-build and construction management business and was entrusted to perform whenever and wherever his drive, enthusiasm, and design skills were best utilized, which is a gesture that holds great meaning for him today.Email Enzo
Chris began his career in the construction industry from a young age working under the mentorship of his uncle, a General Contractor, evenings and weekends. His skills as a carpenter took him into the custom cabinetry business and eventually to build his own business in the home renovation industry. He joined Barjac in 2009 as a carpenter, working his way into a Foreman position and eventually to General Superintendent. Barjac provides him with the right balance of working with a smaller, family-oriented company with an excellent reputation for continuously winning large-scale unique and challenging projects.Email Chris
Barb graduated from high school with her sights set on a career in broadcasting, attaining a broadcasting diploma from SAIT followed by working in radio as a copywriter and scheduling clerk. Eventually and as she puts it ‘accidentally,’ she found her calling in accounting after she accepted an Accounts Payable Clerk position with ATCO Structures. While working full-time, she successfully achieved her CMA designation and has never looked back.
Barb spent two decades in Accounting for the Canada Beef Export Federation before joining as Controller. Her instincts consistently support Barjac’s values of being ethical and transparent in all business dealings, along with providing superior customer service and fair treatment of staff and suppliers.Email Barb
